Cork Centre for Architectural Education is a partnership between UCC and MTU led to the formation of the Cork Centre for Architectural Education in 2006. The BSc (Honours) Degree in Architecture and the Master of Architecture (MArch) programme are jointly offered by Munster Technological University (MTU) and University College Cork (UCC) through the Cork Centre for Architectural Education. Architecture explores new ways of living, investigates new technologies and materials, and strives to ensure that new buildings, towns and landscapes are environmentally sustainable. It combines art, science and technology in the design and construction of buildings and their surroundings within a sociocultural context. The programmes offered by Cork Centre for Architectural Education are currently legally recognised for access to the Register of Architects in the Republic of Ireland. The 1-year Master of Architecture award, preceded by the 4-year BSc (Hons) Degree in Architecture award, comprises the 5-years of full-time architectural education as accredited by the RIAI and prescribed in Irish law. In addition to providing educational programmes preparing candidates for registration as professional architects, Architecture and Geography in UCC jointly deliver the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programme “Redesigning the Postindustrial City” (RePIC) through the UNIC European University – enabling the education of the next generation of specialists with the 21st century skills and knowledge needed to address the challenges and opportunities of cities in transition and superdiverse societies.
