Delighted to announce Darren O'Connor from the MSc Redesigning the Post-Industrial City (RePIC) programme (jointly led by Architecture and Geography in UCC), has been selected as one of six students for the annual Puttnam Scholarship.

We are pleased to announce that Darren O’Connor, a final-year student on the MSc Redesigning the Post-Industrial City (RePIC) programme (jointly led by Architecture and Geography in UCC), has been selected as one of six students for the annual Puttnam Scholarship.

The Lord David Puttnam Scholarship is an annual award at UCC that provides registered undergraduate and postgraduate students from any discipline with a unique opportunity to work with and be mentored by digital education pioneer and Oscar-winning film producer Lord David Puttnam. The scholarship supports a cohort of high-achieving students each year and enables them to engage in a series of mentoring and coaching sessions with Lord Puttnam, as well as to collaborate on a team project to produce a short film over the summer that will be screened at the Cork International Film Festival in November.

Darren O’Connor brings an architectural foundation to his postgraduate studies, having completed his undergraduate degree in Architecture at CCAE (a joint institute of UCC and Munster Technological University). He is currently finalising his thesis as part of the RePIC programme.

"I'm delighted with the opportunity for such a unique mentoring experience, with someone as celebrated as Lord Puttnam, and I really look forward to collaborating and bringing the multidisciplinary skills I have gained in RePIC so far with the other students selected."

Commenting on the award, RePIC's Co-Director's, Dr. Jason O’ Shaughnessy and Dr. Denis Linehan, celebrate Darren’s selection noting that it reflects not only his academic excellence and professional promise but also the broader ambitions of the RePIC Programme to cultivate innovative thinkers capable of addressing real-world urban transformations.
