Dr Mark Kennedy from the School of Physics, UCC is part of an international team of researchers that has used a NASA telescope to further our understanding of one of the most exotic types of objects in the Universe: neutron stars.

It was inspiring to see our talented STEM leaders of the future competing in the FIRST LEGO League Munster Final at UCC recently. 

Grassland Agro, via the SFI funded VistaMilk Research Centre, will support two PhD students in Agricultural Science at UCC as part of the FutureSoils programme. The students will conduct research at Teagasc’s dairy research centre of excellence at Moorepark, and its environmental centre of excellence at Johnstown Castle.

Professor Jens Walter, School of Microbiology, UCC and APC Microbiome Ireland, and a team of interdisciplinary team of researchers, have found flaws in studies that suggest the existence of a “foetal microbiome.”

Advances in 6G Wireless-Photonic Networking, energy for ‘the internet of everything’ and a facility for the rapid development of microbial bioprocesses for the food and bioeconomy sectors are just some of the projects at UCC and the Tyndall National Institute that have been awarded over €12.5m in research funding.

Congratulations to our College of Science, Engineering and Food Science students who were awarded Quercus Entrance Scholarships at a special ceremony in Devere Hall, UCC on 19 January.
