Our Chemistry Magic Show is available to watch in full online. The show was filmed in November as part of Science Week (Ireland) and Chemistry Week (UK).

A ‘smart needle’ loaded with sensors to determine the needle’s proximity to nerves under the skin took top prize at Science Foundation Ireland’s (SFI) TIDA awards. Lisa Helen, a UCC Chemistry PhD researcher at Tyndall in UCC, developed the idea, which could help to reduce nerve damage following inadvertent injections from needles.

Researchers at University College Cork are leading a €4m EU-funded research project to address energy efficiency and high performance in cloud computing.  The project, CloudLightning, intends to develop an intelligent, power-efficient cloud computing infrastructure that will provide energy savings to cloud service providers and simplify access to cloud resources for cloud consumers. 

The Honorary Fellow Award is the Highest Membership Distinction of the Engineers Ireland Society awarded to Professor Nabeel Riza.

Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation, Damien English TD today announced over €30 million of research funding for 23 major research projects. The funding will be delivered by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation through the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Investigators Programme.
