How to use eduroam - UCC Staff Information

To find out if the institution you are visiting is affiliated with eduroam, go to http://www.eduroam.org/ and navigate the site to find if your destination is listed.

If the institution is listed, it will give you details on how to connect .

Note: You are not required to register for the eduroam service.

eduroam will require you to have an @ucc.ie email address and password that logs onto the central domain to access the wireless in the visited institution.

  • username: e.g. firstname.surname@ucc.ie N.B. you must use an "@ucc.ie" address to access eduroam.
  • password: email password 

Please be aware of the following:

If you have multiple @ucc.ie addresses relating to your account then you may need to verify with the helpdesk which email account to use.

It is only individuals own accounts that are intended for access to the eduroam service. Service based or functional mailboxes will not have access to eduroam.

If you do not have a central account you will need to contact the helpdesk to get central credentials. 

 

How to use eduroam - UCC Registered Students

Student Wi-Fi

Eduroam is now used to provide the student Wi-Fi Service. Full details on how to access the service, such as the required user name and password, can be found on the Student IT Website.

While Traveling

If you are traveling and wish to use eduroam abroad, find out first if the institution you are visiting uses the service: https://www.eduroam.org/index.php?p=where If so follow the instructions on SIT's Eduroam for traveling UCC Students page.

How to use eduroam - Visitors to UCC

If you are a staff member or student visiting UCC from another educational institution, you may be able to access the UCC Wi-Fi instantly if your home institution is a member of eduroam. To find out if your institution is a member please use the following links.

Verify your log on credentials with your home institution and remember to postfix your username with your institutions identity e.g. student_number@myuniversity.edu or firstname.Surname@myuniversity.ac.uk.

You should visit your home institution's eduroam webpage by Googling "your institution + eduroam". 

Trouble Shooting

If you are having trouble connecting to the visited institutions wireless first check their eduroam webpage to verify the details on how to connect. If that still does not work please email eduroam@ucc.ie  or call +353 21 490 2120.

Windows Devices

Windows devices (including Windows Phone)

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in the top right corner.
  • Enter your UCC Staff email address, e.g. jane.doe@ucc.ie, and your Central password.
  • Choose Connect.

Apple Devices

  • Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks in the top right corner.
  • Enter your UCC Staff email address, e.g. jane.doe@ucc.ie, and your Central password.
  • Choose Connect.

Android Devices

  • Go to Wi-Fi settings and select eduroam.
  • Leave EAP method as PEAP 
  • Leave Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2.
  • Set CA certificate: Use system certificates
  • Domain: eduroam.ucc.ie
  • Set Identity to your staff email address e.g. jane.doe@ucc.ie
  • Leave Anonymous Identity blank.
  • Set password to your central password.
