CACSSS conferral of first graduates of MA Digital Cultures from DEBI

The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences at University College Cork conferred the first group of graduates from the Digital Egypt Builders Initiative with an MA in Digital Cultures on Saturday 17th June 2023. Eighteen students were conferred at a conferring ceremony in Cairo.

This was a joint conferring with three other universities in the DEBI program which aims the build digital skills and capacities in Egypt. The conferring was attended by H.E. Dr Amr Samih Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, Professor Chris Williams along with Dr Orla Murphy and Dr Mike Cosgrave were in Egypt for this unique conferring ceremony.

Dr Maissara A. Hussein, Deputy Director of Antiquities at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation attended the conferring and met Professor Williams. The UCC team also met the current cohort of students in the program, and curators and digital developers at museums in Egypt to develop further the existing links between student project work and the digital enhancement of museum and heritage collections. A highlight of the visit was a meeting at the New Museum of Egyptian Civilisation with their IT team.
