A delegation of ten participants from UCC, the Cork Public Participation Network and Cork City Council contributed to the UNIC working conference at the University of Oulu, Finland, on the 24-26 September 2024.

The theme of the conference focused on unlocking city-university partnership, including via a Societal Engagement and Impact Forum which was led by UCC’s Ciara O’Halloran.

Other highlights included the first in-person UNIC Council Meeting, chaired by Prof. Ursula Kilkelly – which facilitated recommendations for the future of UNIC. Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law led discussions on global engagement strategy. Meanwhile, Dr Catherine O'Mahony, Dr Anna Santucci, Dr Luigi Lonardo and Dr Yvon Bonenfant deepened UCC's involvement and progress in, respectively, 'Innovative Teaching and Learning' as well as the academic topics of 'Justice, Security and Institutions' and 'Arts, Culture and Creativity'. The conference laid the basis for renewed city involvement: a high point on which to end the first year of the new phase of UNIC.
