Dr Breffní Lennon, Research Fellow at the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and School of Engineering and Architecture, is a winner of the UNIC Best Paper Award for his paper on sustainability and citizen energy communities, co-written with Dr Niall Dunphy, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Engineering and Architecture/ERI.

Prof. Owen McIntyre is co-awardee of the UNIC Best CityLab Award for the sustainability law CityLab initiative entitled ‘Perspectives on Sustainability’, hosted at University College Cork in June 2024. The win is shared with the co-organisers of the initiative, Dr Alberto Quintavalla and Renée Knoop of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).

Alex Sheehan, former UNIC student rep at University College Cork (UCC) and graduate of UCC's School of Law, is National Winner for Ireland of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize (ECYP) 2025. 

A Master’s programme created via the University of Post-Industrial Cities in Transition (UNIC) alliance and jointly delivered by eight universities, including University College Cork (UCC) was recently announced as the ‘Best Master’s Programme – Science, Technology and Built Environment’ at the Education Awards 2025.
