Attending 2026 CAMEL XXI workshop as invited speaker
Andreas attended the CAMEL XXI workshop (Control of Quantum Dynamics of Atoms, Molecules and Ensembles by Light) in Nessebar, Bulgaria from June 22 - 26 June as an invited speaker.
The workshop hotel was close to the Old Town of Nessebar (you will see in the background of the above picture, this Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
During this workshop, Andreas gave a talk on "Quantum Control of a Thermodynamic Piston" .
He presented different setups for the quantum control of a thermodynamic piston.
The first model was a hybrid classical-quantum system consisting of a classical piston and a self-interacting pseudospin 1/2 Bose–Einstein condensate with a time-dependent Rabi coupling [1] where he showed how by optimised design of the time-dependent direction of the Rabi field to control both the position and velocity of the piston.
As the second setup [2], a scheme for piston control in a two-ion quantum device with motion confined to orthogonal axes has been presented where one ion plays the role of a “classical” piston driven by the Coulomb interaction with the other ion, whose quantum motion is controlled through modulation of its trapping potential. Inverse-engineering protocols to control the motion of the “classical” ion, i.e. the "piston" were designed. The proposed control scheme provides a useful route toward controlled piston dynamics in microscopic quantum devices.
