Marita Hennessy attended the Broadly Conceived Conference 2023 at Birkbeck, University of London on 08 July 2023. She presented work from the PLATFORM project titled “It makes people uncomfortable”: How can we get pregnancy loss research evidence into policy and practice?” in a panel session on pregnancy loss.

The session was chaired by Camilla Mørk Røstvik (University of Agder) who gave a wonderful keynote earlier in the day. Anna Nelson (Manchester) presented on “Death in the Artificial Placenta: Thinking through Gestateling Loss” during this session also, as did Katy Schnitzler (Open University): “I started bleeding on my shift. I was told – if you go, don’t come back!” Women’s Experiences of Miscarriage in the Pro-natal Workplace”.

Broadly Conceived was launched in January 2022 by Birkbeck PhD students Kate Errington and Jemma Walton. It is an interdisciplinary network of PhD and early career researchers (ECRs) interested in reproduction topics including (in)fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, maternity and more and meets once a month to reflect on work that stimulates lively repro-discussion. In addition, members are encouraged to share and discuss aspects of their own research.

Many thanks to Kate and Gemma for organising such an excellent, thought-provoking and supportive conference, and to everyone who participated in it. We very much look forward to future events!
