Congratulations to Anne-Marie Farrell

Our warmest congratulations to Anne-Marie Farrell who was conferred with her Master’s in Public Health during the UCC College of Medicine and Health Spring Conferring Ceremony held at Devere Hall on 28 March 2025.
Anne-Marie’s dissertation titled “Comparison of Risk, Maternal and Fetal Characteristics of Singleton Stillbirths in Ireland (2011-2021) by Gestational Group” aimed to describe and compare the maternal and fetal characteristics, including the cause of death and risk factors associated with stillbirth, by different gestational groups for singleton stillbirths using the Perinatal Mortality National Clinical Audit database in Ireland, one of the four countries with a national perinatal mortality audit providing good-quality, reliable data. Her dissertation was supervised by Professor Keelin O’Donoghue (PLRG) and Dr Eilis O'Reilly (School of Public Health and Director, UCC).
Anne-Marie’s dissertation topic was inspired by her desire to reduce stillbirths. Anne-Marie’s second son was unexpectedly stillborn at term. His loss led her to reevaluate her career goals and passions, and after a varied career in Google leading teams in Finance, Marketing and Behavioural Economics, Anne-Marie decided to pursue a career in public health focused on improving maternal health and pregnancy outcomes and raising awareness of stillbirth and strategies to reduce stillbirths. Anne-Marie has presented her work at the PLRG Study Day 2024 and the recent TEARDROP workshop on managing perinatal death and pregnancy loss, and will also share her work at upcoming conferences including the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS) conference and the Health Services Research UK (HSR UK) conference.
Many thanks to Professor Helen Whelton (Head of the College of Medicine and Health and Chief Academic Officer to the HSE South South West Hospital Group) and Professor John O’Halloran (President of UCC) for officiating at the graduation ceremony, and to all involved at UCC for organising.
