In response to the entry of the UCC School of Nursing and Midwifery into the Subject Rankings top 100 Professor Eileen Savage of the UCC School of Nursing and Midwifery said:

“I am delighted with our placement in the top 100 of nursing schools worldwide. Our School achieves excellence in offering high quality programmes at undergraduate level in four areas of nursing: general, integrated children’s and general, intellectual disability and mental health; and also in midwifery. We offer a range of postgraduate, clinical specialist, advanced practitioner and doctorate programmes which are fit for purpose. Demand for places on our courses has been growing for the past 10 years and we are proud of our first class teaching resources, exemplified by our state of the art clinical simulation resource centre and our close partnerships with Ireland's largest and foremost teaching hospitals.  Our achievement in the top 100 in nursing schools worldwide is recognition of the expertise and commitment of all our lecturers, administrative and professional/technical staff.”

Professor Stephen Byrne, Head of School of Pharmacy and Chair in Clinical Pharmacy Practice said in reaction to the Rankings:

“I am happy that yet again that we to be featured so highly in the QS world rankings and to see the influence that Pharmacy and Pharmacology in UCC have on a global basis. I am also pleased to see the research endeavours of colleagues and collaborators within UCC being recognised for their dedication and commitment.  It is even more welcome to the School, as it is implementing it five- year integrated MPharm degree which started in September 2015.”

UCC President, Professor Patrick O’Shea welcomed the good news, which follows UCC’s outstanding performances as University of the Year in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 and other international ranking systems.

  • UCC was named University of the Year for the second consecutive year in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, the only Irish university to have received this accolade
  • University College Cork ranked highest in Ireland and 12th globally in a list of the most sustainable universities in 2017. Universitas Indonesia measured the commitment made by more than 500 universities from 74 countries in developing an ‘environmentally-friendly’ infrastructure in its UI GreenMetric Rankings of World Universities 2016,

Professor O’Shea commented: “Such performances demonstrate that University College Cork remains in an excellent position to compete both nationally and internationally. It enhances UCC’s reputation as an attractive option for study at all levels and assures employers that UCC’s alumni are work and world-ready”
