Irish actress Saoirse Ronan in the Oscar nominated film 'Brooklyn' directed by UCC alum John Crowley

In an extraordinary year for the Irish film industry UCC alum, John Crowley, was up for a ‘best picture’ award for the film 'Brooklyn' at the Academy Awards ceremony last night.

John was Director of the film which is based on a novel by Irish writer Colm Tobín.  ‘Brooklyn’ received three nominations in total including Best Film, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Adapted Screenplay (Nick Hornby). See highlights of the 88th Academy Awards ceremony tonight on RTÉ2 9-11pm.

 

To those who might ask what you can do with a BA in English and Philosophy and an MA in Philosophy, John has the answer - be a film director…
