University College Cork (UCC) and the Arts Council have announced the recipients of the 2025 Artist in Residence awards across Literature, Film and Traditional Arts.

Director and writer Tom Hall is announced as the Film Artist in Residence; singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer Eithne Ní Chatháin (Inni-K) is the Traditional Artist in Residence, and plurilingual poet and writer of exploratory prose Ellen Dillon is the Writer in Residence.

UCC is one of six universities to partner with the Arts Council on this flagship programme, which reflects the diversity and richness of Ireland’s creative landscape, with programmes spanning English-language and Irish-language Literature, Film, and Traditional Arts.

Speaking at the launch event, Maureen Kennelly, Director of the Arts Council, said: “The Artist in Residence programmes demonstrate the Arts Council’s dedication to helping artists build meaningful careers.  They help embed creativity in education, providing critical support to artists as they advance their practice, while also creating vibrant opportunities for students and staff to engage directly with professional artistic expression."

“They make for a profound exchange that inspires and uplifts both the artistic and academic communities.  We are hugely grateful to all the institutions who work with us to deliver these residency programmes. Their partnership and continued support are immensely valued,” Maureen said.

Professor Cathal O'Connell, Interim Head of UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, said: “The opportunity to host such inspiring artists in collaboration with the Arts Council is a privilege for UCC. We hope that these residencies will provide them with invaluable time and space to deepen their practice, while fostering meaningful connections with both the UCC community and the wider public.”

“We are grateful to Professor Jools Gilson, Director of UCC Creative and Professor of Creative Practice, for her great stewardship of UCC’s Artists in Residence programmes – delivering on UCC’s commitment to creativity, innovation, and collaborative practice across all disciplines,” Professor O’Connell said.

The residencies aim to give artists time and space to develop their own practice, in addition to offering opportunities to come together to explore and present their work across readings, concerts, screenings, performances and other presentations. Artists also engage with students, staff and the local community through workshops and outreach events.
