New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy visits UCC
The Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and a Choose NJ delegation today visited UCC as part of an economic development visit to Ireland.

Gov. Murphy was greeted at UCC's APC Microbiome Ireland research centre, where he was accompanied on a tour of the facility by UCC President John O'Halloran, UCC VP for Research & Innovation John Cryan, APC Director Prof Paul Ross, APC General Manager Dr Brendan Curran, and UCC Associated Vice President Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law.
There Gov. Murphy met with researchers who outlined to him the work APC Microbiome Ireland conducts on gut health and its impact on our overall wellbeing.

From there Gov. Murphy walked to the historic Quad and onto the Council Room, where UCC's Director of Information Services and University Librarian John Fitzgerald gave the visiting New Jersey delegation an informative presentation on the Great Famine, its causes, consequences, and the impact it had on the wide-reaching Irish disapora around the world.
Mr Fitzgerald then presented Gov. Murphy with a copy of "The Atlas of the Great Irish Famine", Cork University Press' award-winning tome on the disaster.
Gov. Murphy's visit to UCC concluded with a roundtable discussion on renewable energy and the environment.

Meanwhile, New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy and New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan today visited the "INFANT" - the Irish Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research, Ireland’s first translational research Centre for maternal and child health.

The visit included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NJEDA and INFANT, which establishes collaboration through sharing of research findings, clinical work, and best practices that will support the mission of both parties to be at the forefront of groundbreaking research and accelerate efforts to advance health outcomes of mothers and infants.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between New Jersey Economic Development Authority and University College Cork which will provide a general framework for future collaboration between the Nurture NJ and INFANT.

As part of First Lady Murphy’s Nurture NJ initiative, the First Lady and members of a New Jersey delegation to Ireland visited INFANT to gather information as the Garden State works to launch a Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Center in Trenton. The Center is a key recommendation from First Lady Murphy’s Nurture NJ Strategic Plan, which aims to make New Jersey the safest and most equitable state in the United States to deliver and raise a baby.
