UCC’s Indian Alumni community launch appeal

11 May 2021

As India grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Alumni Community at University College Cork (UCC) is seeking to raise funds for both medical equipment and to support families in desperate need.

“Everyday I am hearing the most heat breaking stories from India” commented Dr. Lekha Menon Margassery, President, UCC Indian Alumni Community. “There are young children who have lost both parents, there are rural areas that cut off and urgently need medical equipment including oxygen concentrators, and ventilators.”

UCC Alumni community has established a fund raising page and is working with CoVolNet in India, an online network which helps connect people with the right resources during the pandemic and also will be liaising with alumni in Ireland, including Dr. Atul Thorat and his friends, Mr. Sudheer Kamath, Mr. Suvarnkumar Gunde and Mr. Roshan Kolhe who are helping source the needed equipment and supplies.

“We know this is a challenging time for everyone but if you can help those impacted in India, we will be most grateful” commented Dr.Menon Margassery.
