Write here, Write Now podcast launches at UCC

Each of the six episodes deals with one academic writing skill

A new podcast dedicated to the improvement of academics skills has been launched at UCC.

The Write Here, Write Now podcast, funded by the Broadcasting Authority Ireland (BAI) offers third-level students an accessible yet entertaining introduction to common issues that they might experience in academic communication. It is the first podcast offered by an Irish university dedicated to improving academic skills.

Each of the six episodes deals with one academic writing skill and offers students helpful tips and advice for improving their own academic writing. There are for example episodes on how to build an academic argument and academic writing styles.

The team behind “Write Here, Write Now” form part of the team at the Skills Centre in UCC, many of whom created the content for the specific sessions that are delivered there. As a result, the team was able to create this podcast series to complement the sessions delivered in the Skills Centre and to promote further engagement with the topics.

No other Irish university currently offers a podcasting approach to the development of essential academic skills. The subject matter of the programme is relevant across all disciplines and is targeted at a general audience so that students of all levels and from all backgrounds, as well as those outside of academia, will find it useful.

The podcast evolved from the Skills Centre radio show series Write Here, Write Now, which was broadcast in 2018 on UCC 98.3FM. The show was shortlisted for the 2018 #smedias Radio Production of the Year award.
