RTÉ and UCC are pleased to announce a preview screening of The Irish Revolution, a three-part documentary series based upon the award-winning book, The Atlas of the Irish Revolution.

Narrated by Cillian Murphy, the documentary traces the development of Ireland over the period 1919-21. Using powerful voices of leading academics, writers and commentators, The Irish Revolution offers fresh perspectives on a defining time in Irish history.

The sold-out preview screening will take place tonight, January 29 at Cork Opera House, with all proceeds going to Cork Penny Dinners. The screening will be accompanied by a Q+A session with a panel of specialists moderated by Dr John Bowman, Historian and Broadcaster. Episodes will be screened by RTÉ One on Monday, February 4th, 11th and 18th, at 9.30pm.

The Atlas of the Irish Revolution has broken sales records for books in Ireland. Since its publication in October 2017, 27,000 copies have been sold. The book won both the Bord Gáis Energy Book of the Year and Joe Duffy’s Liveline Listeners Irish Book of the Year.

UCC supported the four-year book project, released by its in-house academic publisher, Cork University Press (CUP). The core staff involved were Dr John Crowley and Mike Murphy of the Geography Department, and Dr Donal Ó Drisceoil and Dr John Borgonovo of the School of History. Cartographer Mike Murphy was responsible for map-production, assisted by Associate Cartographer Charlie Roche.
