UCC inspires STEM engagement for Science Week
UCC will host an exciting line-up of interactive talks, shows and workshops as part of Cork Science Festival, which kicks off this Sunday.

Open to the public, the events will feature scientists from across UCC including MaREI, APC Microbiome Ireland, the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS), the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and INFANT. Most events are free of charge to encourage participation in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
A flagship event Celebrate Science will take place this Sunday in Western Gateway Building in UCC and all are welcome. The last event Community of Festival Science will be in Neptune Stadium on November, 18. Celebrate Science will feature experiments, coding, dinosaurs and much more and at the Community of Festival Science students will have the opportunity to meet UCC scientists, engineers and researchers.
Throughout Cork Science Festival (November 11 to 18), the diversity of science will be showcased; from the colours of fossil animals to surprising illusions, cell explorers; a hands-on science session about DNA, forensic scientist role plays and crime scene investigation to learning about gut health for performance in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

"Cork Science Festival kicks off with a bang at Celebrate Science in UCC’s Western Gateway Building on Sunday November 11 and is followed by a jam-packed week of events at UCC for school students including Colour of Fossil Animals, Surprising Science, CELL Explorers, Solve the Crime, Ocean Devotion, and Fun with Food,” said UCC MaREI’s Aoife Deane, who is part of the Cork Science Festival Organising Committee.
“The Festival is a celebration of science in all its forms, from the science in our everyday lives to the world class research that is being done here in Cork. UCC’s events help to foster curiosity and inspire young people, and show that research continues to deliver new solutions to societal challenges, whether it’s relating to the environment, health, transport, or technology,” Deane added.

Funded by Science Foundation Ireland and one of the biggest events in the Cork calendar, Cork Science Festival is a main partner in Science Week Ireland. Cork Science Festival is developed by a team of volunteers representing education, research and industry across STEM from the Cork area.
