Dr Áine Ryall, School of Law and Co-Director UCC Centre for Law and the Environment, delivered an invited keynote address at the launch of the Planning, Environmental and Local Government Bar Association (PELGBA) on 10 July 2018.  The inaugural PELGBA event was hosted by the Bar of Ireland at the Distillery Building in Dublin.

The Hon Mr Justice Frank Clarke, Chief Justice and adjunct Professor at the School of Law UCC, chaired the event.  The panel of speakers was: Mr Eoghan Murphy TD, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government; Attorney General Mr Seamus Woulfe SC; Dr Áine Ryall; Mr Eamon Galligan SC and Mr James Connolly SC, Chairman PELGBA.

Áine’s paper addressed current challenges for Irish planning, environmental and local government law.  The specific focus of the paper was the challenges inherent in successful implementation of international and EU environmental law in the Irish context.  Áine also took the opportunity to comment on the Government’s recent proposals to amend the law governing judicial review in the case of strategic infrastructure development.
