Falls: Everyone Has a Role in Falls Prevention
As part of Falls Prevention Awareness Week (22-26th September), local HSE teams put on events, and coordinated a multidisciplinary lunchtime webinar series for staff covering a range of related topics. Ruth presented on the impact of the FaME programme on falls prevention and management alongside colleagues from the CUH Fracture Liaison Service on Wednesday 24th September as part of this education initiative.
Background to FPAW: Falls Prevention Awareness Week is a campaign to increase awareness around the risk of falls and how to prevent them. Falls are a leading cause of injury, hospitalization and loss of independence particularly among older adults, yet many are preventable through timely interventions. This awareness week focuses on promoting evidence-based measures such as comprehensive falls risk assessments, physical activity, medication review, vision and hearing assessments and home safety modifications. By taking a proactive approach and raising awareness, Falls Prevention Week aims to support the health, independence and quality of life of individuals across our communities.
