Celebrating Excellence in Science Education

3 Nov 2026

Wednesday, 28th October 2026, marked a significant milestone for the School of Education at University College Cork as we celebrated the graduation of our BScEd Science Education students.

This was a particularly special occasion as we proudly celebrated the final graduating cohort of the BScEd Science Education programme, marking the end of an important chapter as we transition to the new BEdSc degree programme.

A special congratulations to Ciara Martin, pictured here, who was the deserving recipient of the Declan Kennedy Award. This prestigious award recognises the graduate who achieved the highest academic results throughout their studies at UCC.

Throughout her time on the programme, Ciara demonstrated exceptional dedication, empathy and commitment to the teaching profession. Her hard work and passion for education were evident in all aspects of her journey as a student teacher. We are delighted that Ciara has already secured a teaching position at St. Mary's, Mallow, where we have no doubt she will continue to make a positive impact.

Joining Ciara to celebrate this wonderful achievement were Dr Declan Kennedy, Dr TJ Ó Ceallaigh (Head of the School of Education), Professor Alan Kelly (Interim Head of the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science), Dr Ryan Gallagher (BEdSc Programme Director), Stephen Murphy (BEdSc Deputy Programme Director), Kate O'Brien (SEFS College Manager) and Alison O'Connell (CACSSS Manager).

Congratulations to Ciara and to all our BScEd Science Education graduates! We are immensely proud of your achievements and wish you every success as you embark on the next chapter of your teaching careers.
