UCC researcher, Dr JC MacQuarie, is conducting ground-breaking research with night-workers, a significant cohort of the workforce who are largely invisible to the general public and underrepresented in labour history, and urban and night studies. His work recently featured in Le Devoir, one of Canada's most respected and influential newspapers.

Starting in Montreal, the NIGHTWORK_FOOTPRINT project will be carried out in five cities across Ireland, the UK, mainland Europe and Canada. Reporters from Le Devoir recently accompanied Dr MacQuarie on one of his observation walks in the streets of Montreal. Their news story brings important issues to a wider audience, notably the working conditions and safety concerns of night workers. Read the new feature at the following link: Diving into the Montreal Night with Anthropologist Julius-Cezar MacQuarie | Le Devoir.

This research is funded by the Research Ireland Pathways Programme from 2025 – 2029
