Launch of the Stroke Services Mapping Directory
Led by Dr Helen Kelly at the School of Clinical Therapies at UCC, together with Cork Stroke Services, the study found that there were 20 individual organisations/volunteers that provide stroke support services in Munster, five of which operate in more than one county. Of these, 8 are located in Cork, 6 in Kerry and Limerick, 4 in Tipperary, 3 in Waterford and 2 in Clare. In addition to these regional services, 5 national organisations also provide support.
Dr Helen Kelly, Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy said to 96 FM:
“This report offers valuable insights into the supports available to stroke survivors and their families and highlights both the strengths and gaps in current service provision. The findings underscore the importance of accessible, coordinated, and person-centred care, and advocate for improved visibility and integration of services. It is hoped that this resource will not only empower individuals navigating post-stroke recovery from a physical and psychosocial perspective but also inform future policy and service development across Ireland.”
