Dr. Pauline Frizelle from the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the School of Clinical Therapies shares her research goals aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of intervention strategies to support children’s language and communication skills.

A new website was launched during International World Stroke Awareness week and the co-design team was also invited to present this work for the Advances in Communication and Swallowing journal’s Autumn webinar on 6^th November.

This unique website highlights the impact of aphasia on people’s lives, Dr Kelly’s UCC Aphasia Home Café, gives hope through video testimonies of people living successfully with aphasia and provides links to resources useful for stroke survivors and their families.

The Staff Recognition Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in the Aula Max. These awards honor both individuals and teams for their exceptional dedication and commitment to university life and the broader community.

The projects are led by two individual project groups.

To ensure equal access to rehabilitation care and promote the resilience of health systems across Northwest Europe, a new 5-year project is being launched.

Dr Pauline Frizelle has been awarded funding for the The Happy Talk project, funded by the HRB DIFA awards (Definitive Intervention and Feasibility Awards) (circa 1.3 mil.). The proposed study aims to build on our pilot trial by 1) completing a much larger study where children’s allocation to the programme will be decided randomly and where we will look at costs and benefits on a larger scale; 2) identifying key features that support successful application of the programme in the real world and incorporating these into future roll-outs; 3)learning how to make Happy Talk work in a range of contexts.

Dr Pauline Frizelle has secured funding for the TICLD project (International Consensus for Language Disorder) supported and funded by the HRB through the APRO award (Applied Programme of Research, 2.5 mil.) with the title 'Maximising the benefits of intervention research to support language and communication in children'.
