Well attended symposium held in UCC
On April 16th and 17th, a symposium of the British & Irish Section of the European Group for the Study of Social Control was hosted in UCC by Prof. Elizabeth Kiely and Dr. Rosie Meade from the School of Applied Social Studies and by Dr. Katharina Swirak from the Dept. of Sociology & Criminology. 40 researchers attended the symposium over the course of the two days, which also featured a social calendar, including a walking tour of Cork's historic punishment sites guided by UCC Geographer, Dr. Denis Lenihan.
Aine Ryan Mangoang and Lucy Cathcart from the Prisons of Note Research Project held a panel discussion with Katherine Herrity and shared the “Sound and Detention: Towards Critical Listening, Sonic Citizenship and Social Justice” screening/listening session.
