Do young people trust AI and Chatbots? Here's what they had to say

Annette Loy, PhD Candidate

Annette Loy, PhD candidate in the School, recently featured on RTE Radio's Brainstrom programme.  She spoke about how young people's trust in AI and chatbot technology appears to be borrowed in many cases from trust in existing human relationships.

Young people in a second chance education programme revealed interesting insights about whether they would trust AI chatbots to be implemented in their services. Not only do they clearly prefer the support they know from established relationships with youth workers and staff, their trust in staff and institution borrows itself to possibly accept a future chatbot as long as it doesn't take away the human support they come to value the highest.
