Adult Continuing Education (ACE) at UCC has established an exciting new partnership with Irish Education and Training Boards (ETBs). Through this partnership ACE at UCC will deliver the existing Postgraduate Certificate in Personal and Management Coaching to ETB Managers in 2025.
About the Postgraduate Certificate
The Postgraduate Certificate in Personal and Management Coaching is a 30 credit, part-time, level 9 award on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. Full details on the programme and individual modules can be viewed on the programme webpage here: https://www.ucc.ie/en/ace-pcpmc/
Students who successfully complete the programme will graduate with a National Framework for Qualifications (NFQ) Level 9 PG Cert.
To achieve the PG Cert, students will complete two modules, starting in January 2025:
This programme will equip graduates to implement coaching in diverse settings such as business, leadership development, life balance, personal coaching, health care, social care, career coaching, sports coaching, performance and change management. coaching is now recognised as a key component in increasing performance, achieving goals and optimising personal and group effectiveness. existing models of coaching are now being applied in wider contexts and in emerging new settings. this programme will assist students to develop new skills to meet increasingly complex life and management challenges and to practice these coaching skills to the highest standards. graduates of the post graduate certificate programme may apply for membership of the association for coaching.
Upon completion students should be able to:
Demonstrate a critical awareness of the role of relationship in the coaching conversation or intervention.
Implement an integrated approach to coaching drawing on appropriate approaches and coaching models
Implement coaching in the development of effective leadership and within the process of managing change
Practice and integrate emotional intelligence within the coaching process through effective self-management, mindfulness and heighten personal and social awareness
Draw on reflective practice as a means of learning and develop effective writing skills with the use of journal keeping
Coach within ethical and professional boundaries following an established code of ethics and supervision
In total, there will be six full day face-to-face workshops and four evening online sessions. Full schedule is available from the Programme Coordinator.
ACE at UCC staff have extensive experience in supporting adult learners in the online learning environment. Dedicated supports and training will be provided to introduce students to the key IT platforms used including Microsoft Teams and Canvas.
The Post Graduate Certificate in Personal and Management Coaching can be used as a building block towards a Masters in Personal and Management Coaching, see related course on this page. A Masters requires the completion of 90 credits, the PG Cert provides you with 30 of these credits. This Post Graduate Certificate will provide you with the skills to deliver both personal and organisational coaching. It will explore frameworks that support you in the delivery of coaching interventions and will invite you to reflect on your work and practice.
There are no formal examinations, all work is continuously assessed through a combination ofessays, reflective assignments, coaching competencies and presentations.
Who is eligible to take part in this Diploma?
Applications for this fully funded PG Certificate can be made by ETB managers.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age by 1 January of the year of application.
Applicants should have an NFQ Level 8 honours degree or level 8 Higher Diploma, in which at least a second class honours was awarded.
The English Language Requirements for applicants whose first language is not English must have attained IELTS Level 6.5 or the equivalent TOEFL score
Application process
Applicants will initially complete an expression of interest form HERE. Upon completion of the expression of interest, you will be contacted by a member of the UCC team and asked to complete your application through the UCC Apply platform. You must complete the application by November 30th 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified by December 2024 and they will then transfer directly onto the UCC programme application system.
