Frequently Asked Questions

Where will I be conferred?

Your conferring ceremony will take place in Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Leinn / Student's Centre. Once the ceremony has concluded, graduates and guests are invited to a reception, to spend time with class mates and take photographs with friends on the university’s most prestigious campus

What to wear?

It is the policy of UCC that each graduand must wear the appropriate gown and coloured hood for his/her qualification during the formal ceremony.

The wearing of hats as part of conferring attire is entirely optional in University College Cork. The university directs students to decide on the wearing of the hat entirely as a matter of personal choice, without prejudice.

McGinley's Academic Gown Hire will be stationed on campus on the day of your conferring ceremony to facilitate the collection and return of academicals (Kampus Kitchen, Kane Building Basement).

McGinley's ask that academicals are reserved at least one week prior to the conferring ceremony. To book and pay on-line, please visit: www.mcginleygowns.ie

Please note that queues should be anticipated on the day of your conferring; therefore we ask that you allow enough time to collect your gown before the roll call. As this is a formal occasion, please note that smart/neat dress is essential.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission requires us to inform all students that they are free to search for academic gowns on their own behalf. This is subject to the academic dress requirements set out in Academic Dress of the National University of Ireland being satisfied. http://www.nui.ie/publications/docs/AcademicDressBooklet.pdf

How many guests can I bring?

Each graduand may invite two guests to attend the ceremony and reception. These tickets (two guest tickets for the ceremony and three guest tickets for the reception) will be included in your pack.

Please keep these tickets safe, as lost/forgotten tickets will not be replaced.

Due to limited capacity, requests for extra tickets will not be considered.

My guests/I have special requirements - Who should I contact?

Disability Support: We are happy to make special arrangements to accommodate people with a disability attending the ceremonies. If you or your guests require assistance, please let us know in advance, at acemanager@ucc.ie. For parking and other information see also;

http://www.ucc.ie/en/build/maps/CampusandAccessMaps/Accessibleparkingandtoilets-Layout.pdf

Where can I park?

Car Parking: You are asked to avail of UCC’s guest car parks located at College Road (P2, entry from Perrott’s Avenue) or Perrott’s Inch (P1, off Western Road). Parking in and around UCC can be limited.  You will find useful information regarding parking on the following webpage: http://www.ucc.ie/en/build/commuting/. Parking will also be available by using UCC's Park and Ride facilities.

What do I do if I am unable to attend my ceremony?

Each graduand must indicate their non-attendance by post, clearly outlining graduand details. Graduands not attending will have their parchments posted to them after the conferring ceremony, provided they have returned their green ‘In Absentia’ card (enclosed in conferring packs)

Will there be an official photographer?

Lafayette Photography will be in attendance before, during and after the ceremony. They will be located adjacent to the Áras na Mac Léinn / Students' Centre for your convenience.

For your convenience you can pre-book online at www.lafayette.ie. Here you can activate your online account and view packages and prices. Lafayette's services also include picture framing, certificate framing, photo enhancements and delivery.
