RIC Constable John F. Webb (aged 21) from London (near Castlemartyr)

Note: Constables Webb and Smith went unarmed to join two of their comrades who had gone fishing after dinner in the demesne adjoining their barracks at Castlemartyr on 30 April 1921. Suddenly, while they were fishing, a dozen armed men surrounded them and opened fire. Smith seems to have died on the spot; Webb was mortally wounded and died on 2 May. Webb had joined the RIC less than six months earlier; he had formerly been a carman.
