Note: Like Sergeant Garvey, Constable Harrington was riddled with bullets by IRA gunmen just after boarding a tram on the Lower Glanmire Road on the night of 11 May 1920. Constable Patrick Doyle was badly wounded but survived. The killings were an IRA reprisal for the assassination of Lord Mayor Tomás MacCurtain. See the previous note. Harrington had served with the RIC for twenty years at the time of his death; previously, he had been a farmer. He was buried in Bantry.
