Guest Lecture on Sustainability and Regenerative Education in Public Schools in Brazil

29 Sep 2026

UNIC staff and students are invited to attend the guest lecture on Monday, October 5th at 5PM titled "Sustainability and Regenerative Education in Public Schools in Brazil - Exploring Synergies" by Professor Rafael Nogueira Costa - a researcher at the Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

For centuries, schools in colonized territories functioned as instruments of colonial domination. In recent decades, in Brazil, these institutions have undergone transformations that have made them spaces of emancipation, creativity, and socio-ecological agency. What are the contributions of contemporary Brazilian educational thought to promoting these changes? Are there national and international projects on Regenerative Education in public schools?

Professor Costa teaches on Postgraduate Programs in Environmental Sciences and Conservation. He was a consultant for the Brazilian Ministry of Education (2023/2024) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (2025). He is currently undertaking postdoctoral research at the University of Stavanger, Norway.

All are welcome. You can join in-person on campus (Shtepps, The Hub, UCC) or online via Teams at 5PM Irish time (6PM CET) on October 5th 2026.
