Global Welcome Week
Join us for our Global Welcome Week - detailed schedule will be added shortly. All postgraduate students are welcome. Events will cover everything from Academic Supports to Healthy Habits as well as UCC History and Cork Traditions. Most events will be first come, first serve and you can attend whatever interests you.
Places are limited for tours so please make sure to register for those in advance.
Be sure to also mark your calendar for the Postgraduate Welcome Day. This will be held on 4th September 2026 and will take place in the Aula Maxima on main campus. This will give you the chance to meet with key student services including the Library and Skills Centre as well as meeting fellow students.
Taught Students Orientation

There will be a Global Welcome Week commencing on 31st August in the Aula Maxima (on the main campus). All postgraduate students are welcome to attend any event, it’s not just for our international incoming students. Some of these events will be first come first served while others will require registration. Different topics will be covered every day. In the meanwhile check out some recorded pre-arrvial info sessions; while some the topics are specific to our international students, most topics are relevant to all incoming postgraduates: Before you arrive, recorded info sessions!
Research Students Orientation
The Dean of Doctoral Studies, Professor Orla Lynch, hosts in-person orientation for our new Postgraduate Research Students who are registered for one of our research programmes (e.g. PhD). Normally these events take place in October and April.
The next Postgraduate Research Student Orientation will take place in person in October 2026; exact date TBC. The event usually commences at 9AM and usually takes place in the Aula Maxima. If you have recently commenced your research programme you will get an email about this orientation event via your UCC email. Don’t miss out – check your UCC email regularly!

Capitation Levy
Following two student referenda held by the UCC Students’ Union in March 2024, it was agreed that the Capitation Levy would increase. This levy or fee is an annual charge paid by students towards services while at UCC.
The total Capitation Levy payable by:
All Taught Students will be required to pay €207, comprised of the following
- a membership fee for the Mardyke Arena (€132)
- Union of Students in Ireland (USI) Affiliation Fee (€5)
- Student Mental Health Services (€10)
all Research Students will be required to pay €70, comprised of the following
- Student Mental Health Services (€10)
- Contribution to the Mardyke Arena (€10)
