Launch of 12 Updated Clinical Practice Guidelines in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
In January 2023, the National Women and Infants Programme (NWIHP) and Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (RCPI) launched 12 updated Clinical Practice Guidelines in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Amongst these were several guidelines relating to pregnancy loss, and involved members of the Pregnancy Loss Research Group, amongst others:
- Assessment and Management of Recurrent Miscarriage (Dr Laura Linehan, Marita Hennessy PhD, Professor Keelin O’Donoghue)
- Investigation and Management of Complications of Early Termination of Pregnancy (Dr Sophie Boyd, Dr Deirdre Hayes-Ryan)
- Stillbirth: Prevention, Investigation, Management and Care (Dr Aisling McDonnell, Tamara Escañuela Sánchez, Riona Cotter, Dr Margaret Murphy, Professor Keelin O’Donoghue)
Led by Professor Keelin O’Donoghue (Clinical Lead) and Nicolai Murphy (Programme Manager), the National Clinical Practice Guidelines are a programme of work agreed between NWIHP and the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of the RCPI. These guidelines offer up-to-date, evidence-based, clinical recommendations for care of women in maternity and gynaecology services, and promote a standardised approach to care across the country. This first suite of Guidelines will be followed by over 30 updated Clinical Practice Guidelines during 2023 and 2024. Each new Guideline will be joined by a Summary Document to support healthcare professionals, and a Plain Language Summary which explains the impact the Guideline will have on women’s care.
