UCC appoints Arts & Culture Officer

University College Cork (UCC) has appointed Seán Kelly to be its first Arts and Culture Officer.

Previously the Executive Director/CEO of The Everyman in Cork,  Sean’s new role at UCC will see him embed a strategic approach to Arts and Culture into UCC, including implementation of the University’s Arts and Culture Plan. This four-year plan – Igniting UCC’s Creative Potentialaims to harness and activate the University’s cultural, artistic, heritage and creative assets, and champion transdisciplinary arts research and new models of engagement right across the UCC Group.

“We are delighted to welcome Seán to UCC. We have a vibrant arts and cultural community and with Seán’s experience we intend to grow its significant potential” states Professor John O’Halloran, President of UCC.

Arts and Culture are central to UCC’s heritage and we are committed, through the Arts and Culture Plan, to embedding this creativity further into every aspect of our academic mission.  I am delighted that Sean will join my team in the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement and I look forward to working together to position arts and culture at the heart of our strategy for global impactstates Professor Ursula Kilkelly, Vice-President for Global Engagement in UCC.

UCC has a wealth of assets that can be harnessed in support of this plan as well an array of amazing artists and creative people across the university so I can’t wait to get started,” states Seán Kelly.

Notable UCC alumni in the arts and cultural community include Fiona Shaw, Graham Norton, Siobhan McSweeney, Samantha Barry, Philip King, Theo Dorgan, and Doireann Ní Ghríofa.

Through UCC’s Glucksman Gallery, the Granary Theatre, its academic and cultural programmes, Artist in Residence schemes and through strategic partnerships with The Arts Council, UCC seeks to deliver on its ambition for lifelong and life-wide learning for citizens of all ages and abilities.
