Beetle diversity

1 Jan 2022
Beetle diversity (Ashley Bennison)

Insects are among the most abundant and diverse organisms on the planet, with the one million species described representing just one-fifth of the approximated species in existence.

Beetles demonstrate this diversity well, encompassing the largest order of insects and leading 20th century scientist J.B.S Haldane to suggest the creator had an ‘inordinate fondness for beetles’. The aptly named Goliath (large black and white specimen) and rhinoceros (horned) beetles are on display here.
