Research title: Can Bacteriophages Affect Bacterial Metabolism in the Microbiome, and How? (MetaboPhage)
Project objectives:
1) Evaluate specific phage-induced changes in bacterial metabolism and gene expression using models of varying levels of complexity (in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo). This approach will shift the current concept of observing phage impact from bacteriome composition to bacteriome functionality.
2) Study potential associations within the gut bacteria – host metabolome – gut virome triangle in healthy volunteers and patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
