Postmemory and Displacement Symposium Groningen University

A two-day symposium was held at the University of Groningen in memory of Dr Cara Levey.

 

The symposium held on May 8th and 9th was on the theme of "Postmemory and Displacement: Latin American and Eastern European Perspectives on Exile & Remembrance".

The symposium was co-organised by Prof Helena Buffery and Dr Kylie Thomas, University College Cork and colleagues in the Netherlands and held in memory of Dr Cara Levey who was a Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies at University College Cork until her untimely death on the 11th of September 2024. Cara was a much-loved friend and colleague, and this event was in honour of her brilliant scholarship on human rights, memory and justice in the Southern Cone.

Symposium Theme:

The symposium addressed how the experience of exile and other forms of displacement are represented through different creative forms of remembrance conducted by women, bringing together Latin American and Eastern European contexts.
