This exhibition explored how the Irish language is engaged through contemporary creative practice to reflect on our interconnected worlds. Through visual art, dance, film, and performance, these Irish artists ground their work in the ethos of fite fuaite, meaning, “interwoven or inextricably connected”, to reflect on the dynamic relationships between people, language, land, and sea. Fite fuaite, is a worldview and ethical practice that enacts relationality and the work in Talamh agus Teanga is one window onto its expression through contemporary art. Dowell’s curatorial practice is grounded within Irish language values and a spirit of generosity and an ethics of care were central to the exhibition. This talk provides insight into the curation, exhibition design, and public programming and will provide examples of the numerous ways in which the Irish language was featured throughout the artwork and visitor experience of the exhibition.
