Peer Group Supervision Research

Drs Marian Murphy and Carmel Halton are researching  the progress of three groups of social work practitioners, located in statutory and voluntary social work agencies. These practitioners have  piloted  professional peer support groups in two separate regions of the country. The groups are designed in accordance with a reflective model of teaching  and learning.  The research will focus on assessing the  contribution that the  peer support group process makes to social workers continuing professional development. The researchers will also investigate the benefits/otherwise of the peer groups in terms of supporting a culture of continuing professional inquiry / development within social work agencies.  The research began in June 2009 and is due to be completed in June 2011. Publications will follow.
