Women from the Travelling Community Receive Certs in Community Mentoring

4 Feb 2025

A group of 12 Traveller women were awarded Certificates for successfully completing the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificate in Community Based Mentoring.

On January 22nd, a group of 12 Traveller women were awarded Certificates for successfully completing the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificate in Community Based Mentoring. Developed in response to a community need, this course was delivered as part of an ongoing collaboration between the Southern Traveller Health Network and Adult and Continuing Education UCC, with Support from Access UCC and the SOAR Project.

Speaking on the event, Deputy Director of ACE, Lyndsey El Amoud commented, "Every child has a right to education. We hope that this course will help the graduates to mentor Traveller children to exercise their right and to achieve their full potential in the education system. For far too long, Traveller children have been denied a positive learning experience in our education system and that urgently needs to change."

Many of the recipients had previously completed the Diploma in Leadership in the Community and are now further enhancing their knowledge and skills. In doing so, they are also serving as role models for children, their families, and other members of the Traveller Community.

Congratulations to all the participants on their achievements! Their commitment to lifelong learning is inspiring to others.
