ABCRF Researcher Wins Top Undergraduate Award

Congratulations to Hannah Winfieldwho was recently presented with the Undergraduate Award for Ireland and Northern Ireland in the discipline of Chemistry in recognition of an essay about her final year project “Synthesis of Novel Indolocarbazole Derivatives.”   

 

On November 1st 2010, at the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin, former President, Mary Robinson, officiated at a ceremony to honour this year’s winners of the national essay competition, the Undergraduate Awards of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Overall, 1,603 essays were submitted. UCC students came first in 5 categories (representing 19% of the total number of category winners), one of whom was ABCRF's Hannah Winfield.

Hannah is currently pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Florence McCarthy in the Department of Chemistry and ABCRF entitled “Synthesis of novel functionalised indoles as potential kinase inhibitors” and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
