ABCRF PhD student waxing lyrical...

"Marine natural products have become a major source of new chemical entities in the discovery of potential anticancer agents."  Congratulations to ABCRF Postgraduate student Donal Harrold on his recent successes at the UCC Doctoral Showcase.

Donal Harrold is currently studying under the supervision of Dr Stuart Collins, ABCRF & Chemistry.  His research is based on the synthesis of natural products isolated from marine sponges, and investigation of its biological activity and toxicity on cancer cells.  He presented his work, 'Tackling Cancer Using Marine Life', at the UCC Doctoral Showcase in Devere Hall on 7th June 2012.

Donal won 1st prize for the Peer Respect section (best overall voted by all judges and audience) and 2nd prize in the Waxing Lyrical Section (presenting research to a non-specialist audience.
