Note: Shorter was killed along with Auxiliary Cadet Boyd in the Rathcoole ambush. At the Mallow quarter sessions in October 1921 the Recorder of Cork awarded £2,000 in compensation to the parents of Cadet Shorter for the death of their son in the ambush at Rathcoole Wood on the previous 16 June. See II, 6 Oct. 1921. Cadet Shorter had been serving as a member of C Company of the ADRIC for less than seven months at the time of his death.
