Note: Lieutenant Hotblack was a ruthless officer of the Essex Regiment who served under Major A. E. Percival in the Bandon area. He was mortally wounded while leading a pincer movement at Crossbarry. He died of his injuries on 22 March 1921 in the Cork Military Hospital. He was interred in the St John Sub Castro Churchyard at Lewes in East Sussex. Another British officer—Lieutenant A. F. Tower—was badly injured at Crossbarry and eventually died of his wounds on 9 June 1923. See Kautt (2010), 151.
