The School of Chemistry would like to wish all our staff, students, alumni, and the wider community a wonderful holiday season, and a very happy new year.

The National University of Ireland (NUI) Awards were presented in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin on Tuesday 2nd of December.

Researchers with expertise in materials research shared their expertise and ongoing projects at a recent workshop led by Prof Paul Hurley, as the first of a biannual series of workshops. The objective is to identify new synergies and potential for collaboration across the School and Tyndall, building on strong research track records in materials research and research infrastructure.  

The President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching were presented at a ceremony in the Aula Maxima on Thursday 4th of December.

The inaugural Professorial Lecture by School of Chemistry Professor Melissa Hanna-Brown took place this week, hosted by the College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science.

The 2025 UCC STEM Awards took place this Wednesday 19 November 2025 in Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn, University College Cork.

The Research Ireland Frontiers for the Future Programme funds high-risk, high-reward research programmes and innovative, collaborative research with the potential to deliver economic and societal impact. This year’s Frontiers for the Future Programme was co-funded by Children’s Health Foundation, Breakthrough Cancer Research, and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.

Congratulations to our Undergraduate and PhD students whose conferring ceremonies took place on Wednesday the 12th of November. Our best wishes to them in their future endeavours.

The School of Chemistry held its annual prize-giving event for student prizes and awards on 10^th November 2025 recognising student performance and achievement across the various degree programmes and years within the School.

The School of Chemistry is delighted to congratulate Dr Sally O’Hanlon, Technical Officer for Physical Chemistry, on completing the 2025 Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership.
