A research-led school of excellence, delivering a range of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Many of our undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses are fully accredited by The Royal Society of Chemistry and The Institute of Chemistry of Ireland. Our supportive and inclusive culture for staff and students has been accredited with Athena SWAN Bronze Awards in 2018 and 2021, and we also became a signer of the Beyond Benign Green Chemistry Commitment Programme in 2023.

The RSC Organic Chemistry Ireland Regional Meeting 2026 is taking place in the Dr Dora Allman Room, UCC Student Hub (Main Campus) on 12/06/2026. The School of Chemistry is delighted to have achieved an Athena Swan Silver Award. This prestigious award recognises 10 years of work undertaken by the School implementing actions to positively impact and advance gender equality. Our progress on improving experiences around family leave was particularly commended.

Chemistry students awarded Quercus Scholar Medals

The College of SEFS hosted a special ceremony to honour our Quercus Scholar Medal recipients 2024-25 for the College of SEFS in the Aula Maxima on 22nd April 2026. A total of 21 students were recognised, including three Chemistry students, and they received a commemorative medal and certificate.

The School of Chemistry at University College Cork hosted a Transition Year (TY) Science Programme, bringing together 24 secondary school students from 18 schools across Cork and the wider Munster region.
