Working in a foreign laboratory is a most rewarding educational experience.

The Chemistry Department are pleased to welcome Professor Roger Whatmore to the Department as Emeritus Professor of Chemistry.

Researchers from the Centre for Research in Atmospheric Chemistry (CRAC) were abroad once more recently, this time for a measurement campaign in Dunkerque.

Dr Robert Healy, a postdoctoral researcher working in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Research Institute, has been awarded a prestigious EU FP7 Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship worth €230,000 to pursue atmospheric research at the University of Toronto in Canada.

Justin Varghese, from Prof. J D Holmes research group, won the CRANN Research Award.

32 schools from around the country took part yesterday in the 2012 Salters Festival of Chemistry, held in Chemstry Department, UCC.

The Department of Chemistry has recently been given professional accreditation by The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for its B.Sc. (Honours) degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry with Forensics (CFS) and in the Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds (CPC).

In summer 2012 a UCC third year chemistry student will have a unique opportunity to gain experience at the business-chemistry interface through participation in the Ireland-US Council Work Scholarship Scheme in association with Pfizer.
