The School of Chemistry would like to wish all our staff, students, alumni and the wider community a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year.

Today sees the release of Issue 8 of our School Newsletter.

Congratulations to Ph.D. student Anya Curran, who was one of thirteen receipients of a UCC Sports Star award for 2019/20. Anya is recognised for her gold medal performance in the European Taekwon-do Championships in August 2019.

The Chemistry le Chéile conference was held on the 9th of December.

Researchers at UCC have produced a guide to help stay safe in the home this Christmas. The guide illustrates common Christmas settings in the home to provide useful advice, particularly in relation to the importance of ventilation.

This week, 90 students graduate with BSc (Hons) degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds, Chemistry with Forensic Science, Science (Chemistry) Education and Chemical Physics.

Congratulations to all postgraduate students on their Ph.D. and M.Sc. graduation this week, and our best wishes to all of them in their future careers.

PhD student Hanan Alatawi came 2^nd in the Best Poster Award category at the recent 27^th International Symposium on Electrophoretic and Liquid Phase Separation Techniques.

A University College Cork-led research project has received €3.2m in European funding to develop a more cost effective way to measure air pollution.
