Our Chemistry Magic Show is available to watch in full online. The show was filmed in November as part of Science Week (Ireland) and Chemistry Week (UK).

A distinguished UCC chemistry graduate, Dr. Piniti Ratananukul was the recipient of a prestigious Alumini Achievement Award at the 2015 UCC awards ceremony hosted by the President, Dr. Michael Murphy in the Aula Maxima on the evening of Friday 27^th November, 2015.

A molecule developed by scientists at UCC, derived from the berries of the Bloodhorn tree, has shown “a very significant reduction in tumour size,” particularly leukaemia cancer cells.

This afternoon saw 7 Chemistry students graduate in the autumn conferrings with Ph.D. degrees.

The past two days saw 66 students graduate with BSc (Hons) degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry with Forensic Science, Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds, Science Education and Chemical Physics.

The 34th annual ChemEd Conference took place in UCC yesterday. The theme of the conference was "Brillliant Resources and Great Ideas for Teaching Leaving Certificate Chemistry."

A ‘smart needle’ loaded with sensors to determine the needle’s proximity to nerves under the skin took top prize at Science Foundation Ireland’s (SFI) TIDA awards. Lisa Helen, a UCC Chemistry PhD researcher at Tyndall in UCC, developed the idea, which could help to reduce nerve damage following inadvertent injections from needles.

The Chemistry Department are delighted to announce Emma Alcock and Laura McCarthy as 2014 Eli Lilly Chemistry and Reilly prize recipients.
